Navigator Models
A collection of my leadership framework and navigation tool. This tool is inspired by the Pacific Indigenous ontology of the vā, the sacred space & time between relationships. The navigator is a facilitation model that goes through our various levels of engagement with the world through a series of sessions exploring our personal, relational, communal & societal values & relationships.
Developed in 2021 for my personal use in navigating my transition to adulthood during a global pandemic. I came to the triangle shape through Pasifik symbology found in tattoos, printing, painting, weaving and more. Representing relationships, societies, our foundations and place in this world, it navigates us back to our self, our identity, where we come from and where we want to go as voyagers.
I got to share this framework and tool with a community of youth for Fireside Youth Leadership Program, a life skills transition program for former youth from Government care. This was an initiative through the Surrey Poverty Reduction Coalition in partnership with Options Community Service Society.
Currently, I am building a community youth program with my local YWCA called Wayfinders, following this framework. Youth will develop their navigation tool over 6 sessions, building their identity through each model (personal, relational, communal, societal).
